Robert from CA Asked Please note that experiences, policies, pricing and other offerings are subject to change and may have changed since the date of this answer.

We booked the Eastern Europe cruise for Aug 2022 and it had a stop in Russia. At this time DCL has replaced the port with a new destination. However with the unrest in the Ukraine we do not want to travel to the region. Can we cancel without penalty?

Ahoy there, Robert! Welcome to planDisney, it's great to have you alongside! I'm sorry to hear that the decidedly non-magical events have coincided with your plans to sail on a Northern European itinerary. There will be plenty of time for your crew to sail on the Disney Magic when you're comfortable, so not to worry!

As part of Disney Cruise Line's return to sailing, several temporary policies have been put in place to help Guests cruise with confidence. While these policies were designed in direct response to that OTHER major life event we've all lived through for the past few years, you'll be pleased to learn that your August cruise falls within the temporary Relaxed Cancellation Fee Schedule policy

For all sailings through September 30, 2022, the cancellation fee schedule which usually begins at 119 days before sailing, has been relaxed to 59 days prior to sailing for Guests booked in non-Suite and non-Concierge staterooms. This means that at any point up to 60 days before your embarkation date, you can cancel your cruise without penalties or fees. The only other exception is that reservations for Inside, Outside and Verandah Categories with Restrictions remain nonrefundable and nontransferable - but if you're not in one of those reservation types, it looks like smooth sailing for you and your crew.

Now, checking the calendar, it looks like 60 days before the earliest Northern Europe itinerary is Saturday, June 11th. If that's the itinerary you're booked on you have until that date to cancel your sailing - if you're on the later itinerary, you would have until June 29th. In either case, there is still time to decide, but I'd suggest taking your airline's cancellation policy into account as well.

If you were still hoping to sail this summer, there is a 7-Night Norwegian Fjords Cruise from Dover that departs in September that you could consider, but that's completely up to you to determine if that would work for you and your crew.

While I wish we'd met under better circumstances, Robert, I hope those tips help you get ready to make your decision! Thank you so much for your question, and if any additional questions bubble to the surface, please drop me another line here at planDisney!

    Fair winds and following seas,

    Andrew
