We booked our DL trip only to find that many of the main attractions are now listed as temporarily closed. What does it mean for a ride to be temporarily closed? How long is do they stay closed usually?

    Hi there, Angelee!

It’s exciting to be looking forward to a visit to The Happiest Place on Earth! But I’m sure you are hoping to maximize the magic with as many attractions available as possible. There are two different types of attraction closures you might come across. One is “Temporarily Closed” and the other is “Closed for Refurbishment.”

An attraction that is temporarily closed may be offline due to inclement weather that makes conditions unsafe for that attraction or a momentary operational pause for technical issues or other safety reasons. In my experience, most of these unscheduled closures are quite brief, perhaps less than an hour or so. The actual offline time may vary depending on the reason for the closure and the restart procedures required for the specific attraction.

Attractions that are closed for refurbishment are receiving pre-scheduled TLC. These closures are usually to take care of routine maintenance needs. In some cases, these closures are also needed to apply limited-time overlays. For example, that is the case for the current refurbishment closure for “it’s a small world” as it transforms into “it’s a small world” Holiday. We were just at the Disneyland Resort recently. But I’m feeling very tempted to book another visit soon to experience that attraction!

Tony’s Tip: Purchasing the Disney Genie+ service to add to your theme park tickets can help maximize the magic of a visit to the Disneyland Resort. Genie+ includes the ability to book Lightning Lane return times for select attractions. Using the Lightning Lane allows for a shorter wait time so you can enjoy even more attractions and entertainment. Should an attraction temporarily close during a Lightning Lane return time you have booked, don’t worry. Your booking will turn into a “Multiple Experiences” return time that may be redeemed at the same attraction at a later time or that may be used for another of the attractions that are indicated in the details of the pass as shown in the Disneyland mobile app.

I hope you have a magical time at the Disneyland Resort, Angelee!
