I just booked a Disney cruise! I've been on one cruise before and experienced quite a bit of seasickness. Any tips to help me avoid this next time?

You'll find the smoothest ride in the middle of the ship. If possible, book a cabin that is not only in the middle from bow to stern but also on a middle level deck.

A few days before I sail, I begin taking Bonine, an over-the-counter medication. If the seas are calm, I can stop taking it after the first day but if the seas are rough, I continue taking the chewable pills. On one high seas evening in the Caribbean, I woke up feeling a bit ill and took another pill. Then I slowly sipped some water and had a few mints.

I find that when I take the pills consistently before, during and after the cruise that I benefit from not having to recapture my land legs. If you've ever felt that swaying motion when disembarking, you know exactly what I mean.

If you begin feeling queasy, go outside and stare at the horizon. It helps equalize your inner ear.

I've talked to crew members that encourage eating a light meal before boarding and green apples along with ginger cookies while on the ship.

Consult your physician about the Scopolamine patch and the above recommendations.
