Booked on a Disney Cruise Aug 29, 2010 to Bahamas. Worried it is hurricane season. Does the boat get really rocky? First time on Disney Cruise not sure how to prepare for weather.

    Hi Susan,

Welcome to the Moms Panel, and congratulations on booking a Disney Cruise!  Sailing during hurricane season is a common concern, but I'll admit that it is one of my favorite times to sail.  The warm weather, low rates and smaller crowds make this an ideal time to enjoy a cruise.

That being said, unfortunately the weather isn't something we can control.  I've sailed in some pretty rough waters, as well as seas that were eeriely calm - so I would never discourage someone from cruising, I simply encourage you to go prepared!

Talk to your doctor of pharmacist before you leave to discuss your options. There are over the counter and prescription medications that work great a combating sea sickness. On my most recent cruise I bought the Sea-Band bracelets but thankfully didn't even have to take them out of the package.

Another tip for anyone in your party that may feel a little woozy - get fresh air, preferably from a mid-ship location (the further forward you go the more you will feel the motion), and look off at the horizon.  Try to avoid looking at the waves in the close proximity to the ship as this can make your nausea worse.  On the Magic and Wonder, I try to avoid deck 4 outside when I'm not feeling well because it gives you an up close and personal look and feel of the motion of the ship.  I do suggest going to deck 7 aft because there is a nice small outside deck, away from the water.  It is the perfect place to get fresh air should you not have a cabin with a verandah.

The weather this time of year is typically hot and humid - but the theaters and restaurants are quite chilly with the air conditioning, so I recommend bringing a light sweater for the evenings.

    Hope this helps!
