Hi, Chris! Welcome to planDisney!
A Disney Cruise to the Caribbean sounds like a wonderful family vacation. I’m glad to see you’re thinking about the
required travel documents. Having your paperwork shipshape will make checking in online and at the port go much faster. I’d love to help you ensure you’re ready for sailing.
If you depart from a U.S. port and return to the same U.S. port, passports are not required for U.S. citizens. All you need is an original or official copy of your state-issued birth certificate AND government-issued photo ID – your son won’t need a photo ID, but the adults will. You can also mix citizen documentation. For example, you can use a passport for identification and your son his birth certificate.
When you are 30 days from sailing, you can begin the online check-in process on the Disney Cruise Line website or the
Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. You will need to provide a photo of each Guest’s citizen documentation. Your check-in will show a "pending review" status until Disney Cruise Line has reviewed and approved it. You will also need to present everyone’s citizen documentation at the port, so please be sure to keep them in your carry-on luggage.
Chris, your son is going to have a great time exploring the
kids’ clubs. My son was a little timid at that age, but the youth counselors did a great job creating a warm and welcoming environment. I suggest attending Open House hours in the kids’ club on the first day to see the incredible spaces. Once onboard, the Disney Navigator App will list all the activities offered on your sailing. My son enjoys looking at the activities with me and deciding which ones he wants to attend. If you click on an activity, it will let you see all the days and times that it is offered. This is very helpful when planning out your days.
I hope this information helps clear things up for you and that it’s smooth sailing ahead. Please, cruise back to planDisney anytime. We are delighted to help!
SEAS the adventure!
