When we booked our cruise we paid a one time sum for gratuities. I have since read that we are encouraged to tip extra in envelopes. One guideline was to tip your head server $28 per person in your party. Is this on top of what we already paid?

    Hi Patricia,

Welcome to the Moms Panel!  When pre-paying for your gratuities you allot $12 per guest, per night of your voyage to be distributed as follows to your helpful castmembers.

Dining Room Server - $4 per guest, per night
Assistant Server - $3 per guest, per night
Head Server - $1 per guest, per night
Stateroom Host/Hostess - $4 per guest per night

Let's assume you are on a 3-night voyage, and there are two guests in your stateroom.  The recommend gratuity for your Dining Room Server would be $32 total ($4 x 2 guests = $8 per night, x 3 nights = $32 total).  If you have prepaid your gratuities, you will receive a "coupon" in your stateroom for your Dining Room Server for $32.  You will be responsible for putting the coupon into the envelope provided and distributing to the Dining Room Server.  If you feel that this cast member went above and beyond and wish to tip additional, you can either add cash to the envelope or visit guest services to receive an additional gratuity coupon by adding the charge to your shipboard account.

You will receive a coupon and envelop for each of the four cast members listed above, with the prepaid amount listed on the coupon.  Additional gratuity is at your sole discretion.

    Hope this helps!
