Just booked 1st Christmas trip to Disney! We will be there Dec. 23-28 (no park on 28th). I would like helping pick a park a day, as I have read about crowds! Taking Christmas off to hotel hop to see decorations, and avoid crowd! Thank you!

    Hi there, Jolene!

Holiday time at Walt Disney World is certainly one of the most magical vacation experiences a family can have. And lots of families come down to Florida to share in the fun and excitement of the festive season.

The weeks from December 14 - January 1 are historically some of the busiest you will find at Walt Disney World. From Pop Warner championships at ESPN's Wide World of Sports complex to family vacationers, December is a very popular month.

It has happened that crowds have peaked in the Parks on Christmas Day as early as 10:00 AM. I think you are making a very wise decision, having your no-Park day to Christmas Day, and using that day instead to tour the decor.

Several sites use historical and statistical data to help predict crowd levels; one of the best of these is TouringPlans.com. Based on those predictions for 2012, I'll offer the following itinerary:

    23 Disney's Animal Kingdom, predicted to be a 9.1 on a 10-scale
    24 Either Epcot predicted to be a 9.7 on a 10-scale
    25 No Park
26 Magic Kingdom predicted to be a 9.9 on a 10-scale (the other Parks are 10/10)
    27 Disney's Hollywood Studios, predicted to be a 9.7 on a 10-scale
    28 Departure

What you have in that plan maximizes your time during a very busy week. While the differences in crowd levels are statistically minimal, you might find that the difference between a 9.7 and a 10 is well worth the scheduling.

Breathe deep, enjoy the time together, and have a wonderful holiday!

    See you later, celebrator,
    -Deborah B.
