Hello! Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question.
What a fun birthday your nephew is going to have.
Chef Mickey's is a great way to celebrate. When you arrive at
Walt Disney World, be sure to grab him a complimentary "It's my Birthday" button. Cast Members and Guests will go out of their way to wish him a Happy Birthday throughout your trip!
A character meal doesn't take any longer than a typical meal would if you went out to eat at a sit down restaurant at home. The characters will come around while you are enjoying your food. So if it typically takes your family an hour or so to enjoy dinner normally, I'd plan on that. At Chef Mickey's, the food is served buffet style so you will have control over when and how fast you eat. From
Disney's Contemporary Resort, it's a short walk to
Magic Kingdom Park. If it were me, I'd probably make my
FastPass+ selections starting at 2:45-3:00 pm. Keep in mind that your FastPass+ selection is an hour window, so if you're running behind no big deal. You'll have plenty of time to get there. Starting around 3:00 pm gives you time to enjoy your meal, walk to Magic Kingdom Park, go through security, actually enter the park, take pictures in front of
Cinderella Castle and then walk to your FastPass+ destination.
I hope this helps you plan your day a little bit better. If you have any other questions, I'd love for you to come back and ask me. Enjoy!
