We booked CBR for December 14-22/2015. Our other WDW trips were in August-we did parks early, hotel in afternoon and parks pm. Will we need to start as early this trip? It would be nice to sleep in, but I am nervous. Help?

Hello, John. My trip starts December 12th. Maybe we will run into each other! December has always been my favorite time of year to visit Walt Disney World in part because the weather is milder compared to the blistering heat of the summer. Also, there is a small chance of inclement weather, which makes park touring even more enjoyable. During the holiday season the parks and resorts are all decked out in festive holiday decor which somehow makes a trip even more magical.

During the first 5 days or so of your trip you should experience moderate crowd levels. However, during the last few days of your vacation the crowd levels will increase significantly due to the holiday. I always suggest taking a look at the crowd calendars online to get an idea of what crowd levels and patterns have looked like historically. I think you will be able to take it easy the first part of your trip, but you'll have to get more strategic during the last few days. The best advice I can give you is to do what you are most comfortable with. You know your schedule the best, so if you function better with a little more sleep, then you should do what makes you happiest. If you are ok with sacrificing a couple of hours in the morning then that is the way you should go. Or you can also mix it up. The first few days you can sleep in and then the last couple of days you can tour how you normally do in August. When I went last year in mid-December there were actually quite a few days that were warm enough for swimming!

One last tip before I leave you… You should consider spending the day at the Magic Kingdom on early Mickey's Very Merry Party dates. Usually when people see that the park will close at 7 p.m. they plan to do a different park, which lightens the crowd level at The Magic Kingdom. December 15th, 17th and 18th are early party dates during your trip.

If you need anything else, you know where to find us. Have a magical holiday vacation!
