We are booked at the Beach Club, I understand that the Magic Express from Orlando airport will be discontinued by then. What options will there to get from airport to resort, with least fuss? Specifically in regards to luggage. Specifically, 2 kids in tow.

    Hello Tina!

Welcome to planDisney! As a long-time fan of Disney’s Magical Express, I am feeling the loss of this service as well. We usually have four kids in tow, and I am all about convenience and affordability, so let’s talk about transportation options.

First, I think we need to remember that next year is still quite a bit away and so there may be more options that become available as the year comes to a close. I suspect outside companies will see this new need in the tourist market and try to fill it with hopefully new and innovative transportation options. So keep your eyes open and continue to watch planDisney to see if new ideas and options arise!

Before Disney’s Magical Express, the Mears transportation company did offer shuttles to the Walt Disney World Resort as an independent service. My mom and I used this exact service in the late ’90s on a mother-daughter Disney trip. While there was a cost associated with the trip, it was easy and convenient. While there are no specific details yet, Mears has stated that they intend to continue offering their own shuttle service from Orlando International Airport to the Walt Disney World Resort. As your trip approaches more details should emerge. I would assume it would be a similar set-up where you would pick up your luggage at baggage claim and then head directly to your shuttle bus. I suspect that this will be the option I will be most interested in for my April 2022 trip with 3 of my kids, and the one I think might be the best option for families with young children.

Your next option is to use a ride-share or taxi service. This may be the most affordable and fastest option, but depending on the ages of your children, the car seat situation may be a struggle. With little ones, I think hauling car seats, or worrying about a ride-share having them sounds stressful, and so the shuttle bus still seems like a better idea for us. If you have older kids or teens, Uber or Lyft may be a quick and easy option.

Then there is always the car-rental option. Many people prefer the independence of having their own vehicle to go where they want when they want. I tend to find the best rates with Costco, so if you are a member, check there first. You’ll need to keep in mind that there is an overnight parking fee to park at Disney Resort Hotels. If you are a Disney Vacation Club Member staying at Disney’s Beach Club, you will receive included parking as a Member Benefit, and all Guests staying within the Disney Resort Collection of Hotels also receive complimentary theme park parking. While a rental car may be a pricer option, and less convenient at the airport, you would have the added benefit of being able to do a grocery run to pick up essentials on your way to the resort, or to venture off the resort for meals or alternate adventures.

Ultimately Tina, the choice is up to you. I plan to wait until the autumn and see what additional options become available, and then compare the cost of a rental car to the cost of the shuttle bus and decide. Keep checking back here on planDisney, or even ask this question again in the late fall to see if we have any additional options to recommend.

Hoping for pixie dust for easy transportation options for us both!
