Just booked air & hotel for Jan 29-Feb 5, 2011. Yay!! Need advice on whether or not to see Fantasmic! Traveling with 3DDs 8,6&3. Trying to take it easy, don't want to over-do. Should we wait til the kids are a little older? This is our 1st trip. TY

    Victoria:

You will probably get many opinions on this, but I am in the camp to wait until your 3- and 6-year-old are a little older.  Like many of the Disney films, Fantasmic has a dark side (think the witch in Snow White meets Jafar along with Ursula from the Little Mermaid--LOTS of villains) and although the water floats were flashy and the pyrotechnics were impressive, the actual bulk of the show can be confusing to adults let alone slightly frightening to children. (I actually recommend that you visit a non-official Disney site like www.allears.net and read up on the meaning of the show. Otherwise, for first time visitors, you'll be lost while your children are asking "Why is Jafar turning into a snake?" as they bury their heads in your lap!)

Another drawback of the show is the wait for seats (doors open for the show two hours ahead). You aren't visiting in the heat of summer, but cold or rain during early February might put a damper on your day, so if you decide to go, be prepared with ponchos and a light jacket as I remember it always seems to be windy in that ampitheater once the sun goes down. Another tip: bring toys for the girls or get your dinner before you enter and eat it while you wait.

I usually recommend that families visit Disney's Hollywood Studios on the days Fantasmic isn't playing for the lighter crowds those days bring to the park, but you're already visiting during Value Season so crowds won't be as dense regardless of your decision.

Feel free to ask one of the other moms if you'd like to get a second opinion!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
