Jambo, Anita! It's my pleasure to welcome you back to planDisney. I'm so glad you've found us to be a trusted source of information and advice over the years. I can totally understand your desire to maximize flexibility by booking your room and tickets separately, and I'd be happy to answer your question about purchasing tickets after reserving your resort hotel room.
You can absolutely wait to purchase your tickets until your arrival date is closer, and you can view your hotel reservation and link your tickets in the "My Plans" section of the
My Disney Experience app. Just open the app, tap the hamburger menu (☰), then choose "My Tickets & Passes." Tap the blue circle with the white plus sign at the top right corner of the screen, then follow the prompts to either purchase tickets or link your admission. You can also get to this screen by tapping "My Plans" and then selecting "Link Admission" under the "Is Anything Missing?" heading.
I also want to note that you are correct about the cancellation policy for vacation packages. Guests who book these packages can cancel 30 days ahead of their trip without penalty, but will forfeit their $200 deposit if they cancel between 2 and 29 days before their reservation is scheduled to begin. The full cost of the package is forfeited for cancellations 1 day or less before arrival. You can review all the
vacation package terms and conditions if you'd like to know more.
For room-only reservations, guests can cancel up to 8 days in advance without penalty. You can read the terms and conditions for this type of booking when you are about to purchase your room. Look for the blue "Terms and Conditions" link underneath the green "Continue" button when you are
viewing your Cart on the Disney World website. A pop-up will appear on screen and give you all the details you need to know!
Your plan to wait until 2 weeks prior to arrival to purchase tickets makes sense to me, Anita! This will give you time to secure the ticket you want and retain your hotel reservation flexibility if anything changes prior to your trip. There might even be some exciting
Special Offers next spring that you'll be able to take advantage of! I hope this information helps, and I look forward to providing more trusted tips and planning advice to you in the future.
Stay magical,
Scott
