Hi Tim!
Welcome back to planDisney!
From my experience, if your very first
Lightning Lane of the day expires, you’ll be able to book another one; however, you’ll only be able to book another tier 2 attraction. To be able to book a Lightning Lane from any tier, you would need to scan into the attraction. Once you scan into your first Lightning Lane of the day, you’ll be able to book any attraction in any tier, pending availability.
It’s also good to note that once the Lightning Lane expires and the grace period ends, you will not be able to rebook that Lightning Lane during your park day. You can only book each available Lightning Lane one time per park day.
With all of that being said, I recommend booking your first Lightning Lane of the day to be as close to the time you plan to enter the park as possible. That way, you get the most out of the service!
Remember, you can also modify your Lightning Lane return times leading up to your trip and on your park day. And I’ve noticed that you can overlap your Lightning Lane return times much more on your park day than you can prior to your trip. So, you can always look at modifying your return times to work better with your plans if needed.
Your Lightning Lane booking window will open at 7 AM Eastern, 7 days prior to your resort check-in date if you’re staying at a
Disney World resort or select good neighbor hotel. If you’re staying off property, your booking window will open at 7 AM Eastern, 3 days prior to the start date of your ticket for date-based tickets.
I hope that helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to
