Hiya Catherine,
Welcome to planDisney! First, let me say a very happy early birthday to your son! I know your trip is a month before your son’s birthday, but when you are celebrating turning 16, it is the perfect excuse to celebrate a month prior.
Some of my friends recently did
Disney’s Keys to the Kingdom Tour and loved it. It really is a fantastic way to get a behind-the-scenes look at Magic Kingdom Park. There is a reason the park is so iconic and beloved, and this tour helps you grow your love for this special place. As you mentioned, Guests must be 16 years of age or older to participate in the tour, but I wanted to double-check if an exception was possible given how close your son is to the goal age. Unfortunately, each Guest must have a valid photo I.D. that shows their proof of age to participate, so your son would not be able to participate.
I know this wasn’t the news you hoped for, Catherine, but I hope you found it helpful. As you consider alternatives for your family, can I recommend
Wild Africa Trek? I know it isn’t the same as Keys to the Kingdom, but it is a more in-depth look at
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. It really is a memorable way to add more magic to your vacation! If there is anything else we can do to help, please come back and see us.
Happy Planning,
Ashley F.
