Do we have to book to go snorkeling at Castaway Cay? Is it free?

    Ahoy, Fedayeen!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! A Disney cruise is already a DREAM come true, but all the more so when traveling to my favorite Bahamian paradise, Castaway Cay.

Snorkeling is way up there on my most beloved activities list, especially while on Castaway Cay. The Snorkeling Lagoon has two snorkeling trails for beginners and more experienced snorkelers, and even some hidden treasures under the sea. Hidden Mickey alert!

You can bring your own snorkel gear or rent it for the day. If you bring your own gear, there is no charge to snorkel. If not, you could choose the Snorkel Lagoon Equipment Rental, which includes  mask, snorkel, and fins. Prices are subject to change, and currently the rates are $ 34 for ages 10 and up and $ 18 for ages 5-9. Reserve your snorkeling equipment online or you can decide that day and rent them either at Flippers and Floats or Gil's Fins and Boats once on the island.

For safety reasons, children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older. Additionally, life vests are complementary, and I’ve found the life vest helps me float easier, meaning I will be able to snorkel longer while gazing at all the marine life. Hello Nemo!

Another great Port Adventure involving snorkeling is Castaway Ray’s Stingray Adventure. Don snorkel gear and swim with stingrays. You’ll even have a chance to feed them-it’s so easy and they are surprisingly gentle. My kids still comment on how much they enjoyed this experience every time we visit Castaway Cay.

Be sure to check out all the Castaway Cay Port Adventures...or you can choose to go ashore and decide that day what you are in the mood to do. Sometimes just winging it is the best plan. As my kids have gotten older, I've found that they want less planned so that they have the flexibility of also hanging out with friends at the youth clubs like Scuttle's Cove and Teen Hideout, or in the game pavilion called In Da Shade.

Fedayeen, please visit us again with any other planning questions you may have!

    SEA ya real soon!
