Hi, Macey! Or as they say on the planet Batuu, "Bright suns!" Thanks for bringing your question to planDisney!
Building a custom astromech unit at
Droid Depot is an experience that I think any
Star Wars fan would love. During a visit to Droid Depot at
Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, the builder will be able to choose parts for their droid from a wide variety of components. They will then assemble their custom droid and bring it to life during this unique experience. Your new droid will be the perfect companion for exploring Black Spire Outpost.
The droid-building experience is popular, and reservations for Droid Depot are recommended. Once a Droid Depot reservation is booked, this experience will show up in the "Future Plans" section of your
My Disney Experience mobile app. Since Guests from your My Disney Experience Family & Friends List can see each other's plans, it may be difficult for you to keep the Droid Depot reservation a secret from the other members of your party.
If you'd like to surprise your friend or family member with a visit to Droid Depot, I suggest surprising them once you've booked the appointment rather than waiting until you arrive at
Disney's Hollywood Studios. A couple of years ago, my husband and I wanted to surprise our kids with a visit to
Savi's Workshop - Handbuilt Lightsabers. We had a
Walt Disney World Resort trip coming up in February, so we decided to book the Savi's Workshop reservations and surprise the kids for Christmas. We printed out the email confirmation for our Savi's Workshop reservations and wrapped it up as a Christmas gift for our kids. Revealing this surprise a couple of months before our vacation helped build excitement for the trip. Perhaps you could plan a similar surprise for your Droid Depot visit.
I'm sure that no matter how you announce your plans, the lucky droid builder in your group will be excited to take part in this activity and appreciative of your thoughtful gesture. If we can help you with any other questions as you get ready to travel to a galaxy far, far away, please
don't hesitate to ask. May the Force be with you!
