    I want to book a Disney Cruise (carribian) for Jan, to surprise my husband and 5 year old daughter for Christmas. We've never been on a cruise and I was wondering about passports? We do not have any and if I ask him to get one he will want to know why...

    Hi Christine,

    Welcome to the Moms Panel!  What an incredible surprise you are planning!  Technically, passports are not required when cruising from the United States to the Caribbean - however I strongly suggest getting them anyway.  To enter the U.S. by cruise ship, they are not required - however to enter by air, they are.  So in the event of an emergency where you needed to fly back to the states - unless you have a passport, you will not be allowed entry.

    So I guess you have a few options:
    • Bring him to get the passport and tell him you're "considering" a vacation (just don't tell him any details).
    • Get yours now, and once the surprise is out - you can get one for your husband and daughter using expedited service.
    • Don't get them at all....but I don't recommend it.
