If I book a cruise for two adults (staying in adjacent rooms), and one of the adults (granddaughter) is not able to travel for some reason...can I substitute the adult (for my husband or sister)?

    Ahoy, Denise!

Welcome back to planDisney! It sounds like you’re putting together a practically storybook-worthy sailing for your crew, and I’m already picturing those connecting stateroom doors swinging open like something straight out of Encanto with everyone coming and going. I hope everything lines up perfectly and your full travel party is able to sail, but let’s chart a course for your backup plan just in case.

Now, because I cannot see all of the specifics of your reservation, my best advice is to give Disney Cruise Line a call. A friendly Cast Member will be able to pull up your booking and walk you through exactly what is possible when it comes to swapping out a Guest, along with any fees or restrictions that may apply. Hopefully it is a call you will not need, but it is always good to be prepared.

You already have a great setup with adjacent staterooms, and in most cases, name changes are allowed as long as certain conditions are met. One important factor is the type of stateroom you book. As you mentioned, this likely will not apply to you, but if a reservation is made under a “Guarantee Category with Restrictions” where Disney assigns your stateroom, name changes are typically not allowed.

Another key detail is that at least one original Guest must remain on the reservation. Based on what you described, that should not be an issue, but it is an important rule to keep in mind. Timing also plays a role. If your cruise is paid in full or you are within 45 days of sailing, Disney may charge a service fee, which is currently $50 per Guest for name changes.

One thing I always like to point out from experience is what happens after the name change. If you have already secured Port Adventures, onboard activities, or even dining reservations tied to that original Guest, those plans usually do not transfer automatically. Once the change is complete, it is a good idea to hop back into your reservation and double check everything so your new travel companion does not miss out on any of the fun.

I hope this helps you feel ready for any last-minute changes while keeping your plans on course. No matter who ends up sailing with you, there is plenty of magic waiting onboard and memories ready to be made.

Sea ya real soon as springtime magic begins to ripple across the water,
