Blizzard Beach had its own mascot named Ice Gator. What happened to him? Why did Disney decide to retire him? The park is celebrating its 30th anniversary, yet Ice Gator is nowhere to be found. #BringBackIceGator

    Hiya, Gregory! Welcome to planDisney!

Thanks for bringing us this brrr-illiant question. I just returned from a Walt Disney World trip and visited Blizzard Beach for free on our check-in day as part of the water park benefit available to Walt Disney World Resort hotel guests in 2025. So the experience is fresh in my mind and I’m ready to uncover some information about Blizzard Beach’s mischievous mascot.

While Ice Gator no longer sees guests as part of a regular meet and greet experience, there are still signs of him all over Blizzard Beach. As you enter the park, you can spot an outline of Ice Gator where he crashed into the wall of Beach Haus after an unsuccessful run down Mount Gushmore. Then there’s Ice Gator’s cabin, which you’ll find in the southern section of Cross Country Creek, near Runoff Rapids. As we floated past his cabin on our recent trip it sounded like Ice Gator was home with a cold, but we managed to dodge the water that came out of the chimney each time he sneezed. Maybe his cold has been keeping him from meeting with guests.

As you mentioned, this month is the 30th anniversary of Blizzard Beach, and some special events have been planned to celebrate. You never know who might join the party, so I’d suggest watching the Disney Parks Blog for updates.

I hope this information helps with your next visit to Blizzard Beach, Gregory. If you have any other questions, come right back to planDisney. We’re always here to help!

    Magical travels!
