I have a binder that I’d like characters to sign during my upcoming trip, but it’s a bit heavy because it holds my pin collection inside. Am I allowed to hold the binder for the characters while they sign it, or should I remove the pins first?

Hey there Kristian and welcome to planDisney!

With the weather still being a little chilly out up in New York, I bet summer can't come quite soon enough for you to be able to soak up some sun down here in Orlando! It sounds like you're not only an avid pin collector but also a bit of a character connoisseur, and I'm stoked that you'll be able to enjoy all of the special Character Experiences here at Walt Disney World Resort where you can interact with them. I love the idea of having a special binder to keep your autographs handy, especially since you can easily pop in any pre-signed autograph cards that you might receive from characters like Olaf at Celebrity Spotlight, whose stick arms probably wouldn't do so well under the weight of your binder with all of your pins! Having lived and worked alongside my Disney Princess pals and furry friends alike, I'm happy to lend a few pointers that'll make for some easier experiences for everyone:

    • I've found that most of our Character friends prefer to be able to hold the object that they are signing, especially if they need to bring it up to "eye level" for some of our taller pals! In this case, it is probably best to remove the pins temporarily for the day while you're autograph hunting and replace them afterward. Some folks I know who collect binders of pins have pages or sheets that they can lift out whenever they need to, which definitely makes it less bulky and lighter for our friends to be able to autograph - and remember, when it comes to surfaces to sign - the flatter and sturdier the better!
    • Your best point of reference before you're about to meet with any character or at a Character Dining Experience is always the Character Attendant team who are typically dressed in bright blueberry colors; have a quick chat with them first and they'll be able to advise you in the event of certain friends who may be unable to sign your binder. (I always recommend having a nice thick pen or marker with the cap off and ready to go when it's your turn with your binder turned to the page open the right way up - it's always appreciated!)
As a pin enthusiast, you may already know about The World's Largest Pin Truck that guests may come across on their adventures at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park - parked just outside of Chester & Hester's Dinosaur Treasures. With Walt Disney Imagineering putting more eyes on this space in the coming years, but sure to stop by to see if it's still around on your upcoming visit before it goes extinct!

All the best on your autograph quest to snag the signatures you seek!
