Wendy:
Currently, the
bikes at Fort Wilderness are available to rent for $9 an hour or $18 a day, provided you return the bike by 5 p.m. You can rent them from the Bike Barn located next to the Meadow Recreation Area in the middle of the resort. Keep in mind that children 16 and younger must wear a bike helmet under Florida law, and Disney provides them free of charge.
You can ride from Fort Wilderness over to
Wilderness Lodge along the asphalt path that begins just to the left of Pioneer Hall near the bus stop. Look for the small sign. Our family has ridden the path many times, and enjoyed deer sightings not to mention a couple of armadillos. Once the path opens up to Wilderness Lodge, be aware that the path merges and shares the same roadway with approaching cars for about 100 feet.
You can park your bike in two places that we've found at the lodge: one near the beach, if you'll follow the path that runs behind the lodge's bus kiosk between its buildings to the pool area, along with another that is a little more hidden on the right side of the resort as you walk up its ramp near the arcade. We park here when we're eating at
Whispering Canyon Café. A bike outing at the fort is more than worth the money in my opinion and creates some lasting memories whether you're a family or just a couple.
Wishing y'all a magical vacation!
