Have a big map of Magic Kingdom in 1972....shows the train tracks going in front of Space Mountain. Is this true, I do not remember?

    Hi Arthur,

I love delving into Walt Disney World history and learning as much as I can about the theme parks and resorts. Space Mountain officially opened on January 15, 1975.

The Walt Disney World railroad tracks have not changed course much since the attraction began operation on October 1, 1971.The tracks of the railroad do run in front of part of Space Mountain. The train goes in between the area where guests enter the Space Mountain queue and the main attraction building. Guests actually descend down a ramp and under the railroad tracks as they make their way to the attraction loading area. This is why it looks like the railroad tracks are in front of Space Mountain on park maps.

Please let me know if you have any other questions, Arthur. I love heading back in time to learn as much as possible about Walt Disney World history.

    Have a magical day,
    Ashley
