which is the better water park for my 8 year old daughter, typhoon lagoon or blizzard beach? Her favorite ride is Splash Mountain but she only wants to ride with me and will not look when going over the edge. So she is a little daring but still has fear.

    Gary:

I like to recommend Blizzard Beach to families of active elementary-age children for several reasons. First, its pre-teen area, Skip Patrol Training Camp, offers lots of water activities and obstacles for my kids. Second, we love the chairlift to its family raft ride, Teamboat Springs which seems longer than Gangplank Falls at Typhoon Lagoon, as if they'd improved on it. Lastly, though, and probably more importantly for your daughter, the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon is NOT for average swimmers, especially if she is still slightly fearful. I'm 5' 6" or so and have found myself under water several times in the pool unexpectedly with youngsters grabbing hold of me. The giant waves in the pool bring lots of excitement, screams and giggles but for inexperienced swimmers, it might be challenging.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
