Which is better Chef Mickey or Mickeys back yard BBQ. It is my daughters 7th birthday, but we will also have a 9 year old and grandparents with us - also what is the best time to book. Thanks for your help

Hi Zoe!  We have done both of these great character events many times over the past visits.  The experience is quite different so let me explain and hopefully that can help you determine what is best for your child's personality for celebrating her great 7th birthday.

Chef Mickey is one of the best character dining meals. I personally prefer breakfast there as that is the kind of food we enjoy on buffet lines. But dinner is fine too and it normally will depend on what you want to do for that day. If you are eager to get into the parks then book this for dinner so you are at park attractions early to get Fast Passes and when lines are shorter.  The fabulous five Disney characters will generally be there to meet and greet you at your table. They stop long enough for several photos as well as autograph your books if you choose.  It is a bit hectic with the dining room guests constantly being up and heading to buffets and running back to see characters etc.  Whatever you do try to watch so you aren't missing a character while waiting in line.

Mickey's Backyard Barbecue is a very unique experience. This is in Fort Wilderness and this alone is a great stop for everyone to see as you can also try to book a carriage ride before or after your dinner or head to see the stables before dinner.  This is more of a show experience. There will be a live country music band, singers, and trick roper and children are encouraged to dance the night away.  The best part is that the characters will come out and dance with them.  Two also will stand off to sides of the stage where the more timid guests can go. Food is basic here and no chance for photo posing or autographs but it is about the entertainment.

Both are great....just depends if you are looking more for a dining event or an entertainment event as characters will be involved with both for you all to see!
