Hi Kim! I'm honored to answer your question regarding your upcoming cruise aboard the Disney Dream with your sister and nephews! I can't thank you enough for bringing this question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. Here are some helpful hints that we've discovered while sailing with my son.
If you haven't already, reach out to the Special Services Team and talk with them about any accommodations that Jacob and Gage might need onboard. They may offer an accommodation you didn't think was possible! Have you read the
Information for Guests with an Autism Spectrum Disorder? It's loaded with ideas for a smooth-sailing cruise! If your nephews enjoy meeting Captain Mickey but find it challenging waiting in line, you can hold your family's place and they can reunite with you once it's your turn. My son loved the "Family Movie Fun Time" in the Buena Vista Theater! It's a great way to watch a movie and be comfortable knowing the kiddos can laugh, clap or yell without disturbing other viewers. You will be sailing to one of my favorite places on Earth, Castaway Cay. There, they have sand wheelchairs available at a first-come, first-served basis across from Scuttles Cove. We didn't use one for my son during our last cruise and wish we had!
My fellow Moms Panelist,
Jacqueline P., mentioned that the Youth Counselors have accommodated her son by including him in activities within Vibe! Even though there is an age restriction and her son is older, the Counselors try their hardest to include him in activities within the club. I suggest attending the Vibe open house as a family and chat with the Youth Counselors to see if this might be a possibility for Jacob and Gage!
I'm so excited for your family! Beth
