Hi, Gwen!
The great thing about the Moms Panel is that we will tell you like it is, whether it is good news or not! The good news is that you can get door-to-door service from your resort, but the bad news is that you will have to pay for a taxi to do it.
Back to good news - MOST fares around property should be in the $20 or less range. Now I know that after spending so much money for your vacation, the last thing anyone wants is to spend more money on a taxi. But, isn't a $20 taxi fare worth 2 hours of your time? In most cases, the answer is YES!
Sometimes it is not so bad going resort to resort, such as any resort to the Contemporary. Simply take a bus to the Magic Kingdom and it is a quick 10-15 minute walk to the Contemporary, where you will find Chef Mickey's, a very popular location for character dining. Other locations, like getting to
Cape May at the Beach Club for breakfast from any resort (that is not located on the Boardwalk) is almost more effort than it is worth if using
Disney transportation.
When planning out your dining, plan your transportation at the same time. Decide how you will get there, and if it makes sense to alter your dining location or hire a taxi. The decision is up to you!
