What are some of your best tips to beat the heat during a summer trip to Walt Disney World Resort?

Hi Emily and welcome back to planDisney!

As a Floridian who has lived here for about 25 years, I can confidently say that I have never gotten used to the summer heat and humidity here, but that doesn't stop us from visiting Walt Disney World during the hottest times of the year!

My theme park bag always has a bottle of ice cold water that I fill up in the morning on the way out to a park for the day.  You can pick up complimentary ice cold water at any Quick-Service restaurant or any snack location that has fountain beverages, so I keep refilling my bottle throughout the day.  I also bring a few fans with me, either battery operated neck fans or manual fans.  You can find some beautiful accordion fans in various gift shops around the parks that have massive wind power.  My favorite is a Haunted Mansion themed one I have for myself.  It's so cute!  I also pack a couple of hand towels from my Disney Resort hotel room to pat our faces down during the day and then swap them out for fresh towels when we get back to our room.  My daughter bought a water spray fan when we were recently at Magic Kingdom Park that helped keep her cool.  Don't forget to pack your sunscreen and reapply throughout the day!  I am a flip flop wearer and got a nasty burn on the top of my feet last year, so make sure you apply it everywhere your skin is showing.

I try to alternate indoor and outdoor attractions so we aren't in the direct heat for any long length of time.  Magic Kingdom Park has a good mix of indoor and outdoor attraction queues, so we will ride Tomorrowland Speedway and then head to Space Mountain or Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin to cool off.  After we ride Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, we'll go visit Ariel at Under the Sea - Journey of The Little Mermaid.

Take breaks often!  There is no need to rush yourselves around the parks.  If you feel you need a minute to cool yourselves down, take it.  Grab a cold drink or an ice cream and take a seat somewhere inside.  I like to make a dining reservation for a Table-Service lunch on our park days so I know we will have a nice break in the afternoon to sit inside and enjoy a meal.  Our lunch at Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria in EPCOT last week was the perfect place to relax before we walked around the rest of World Showcase.

If you would like, take an afternoon break back at your Disney Resort hotel.  We love to have an afternoon swim to cool ourselves off and then head back to the parks in the early evening for some more fun.

Please stop back by and visit if you have any additional vacation planning questions.

    Have a magical day!
