What is the best time in May to vacation in Disney? We were thinking of mid May.

    Hi Kimberly,

My family often spends Mother's Day weekend at Walt Disney World. We think it's a perfect time to visit. The summer crowds don't start arriving until after Memorial Day. (Neither do the summer afternoon thunderstorms during most years). And I love celebrating Mother's Day at Walt Disney World with my daughters and husband.

Even Memorial Day weekend, though busy, isn't as crowded normally as the summer months. One note about crowds: Star Wars Weekends at Hollywood Studios usually begin in mid-May. That's good to know if you are a fan and want to be part of the excitement. If you're not and want to avoid those crowds, plan to visit Hollywood Studios on a weekday or on a weekend before the festival begins. This year's dates haven't been announced, but the special weekends started on May 16 this year.

By visiting in early to mid-May, you also will get a chance to be part of the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival. Along with the fall Epcot International Food & Wine Festival, it is one of our favorite special events at Walt Disney World. This year's dates were March 5 through May 18.

I hope that gives you some guidance on the right time to visit for you. Please let me know if I can help in any other way.

    Enjoy!

We live 90 miles from Walt Disney World and have visited frequently for 20 years. Disney is the place our family can relax together, try new things (especially interesting food) and have conversations, no matter what park we visit or where we stay.
