Hi Kerry!
Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.
I love visiting the Walt Disney World water parks, and always schedule a couple of days there for a slower-paced day away from all the excitement of the theme parks. While there is shade to be found under the trees, this will vary according to the time of year you are visiting, and the time of day. I am usually there sometime between July-September, and spend time at
Disney's Typhoon Lagoon from park opening until around midday. My favourite spot that is shaded for the whole morning at that time of year -
you can check it out on this interactive map - is to sit facing the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool, just to the left of
'Let's Go Slurpin' ' My top tip is to arrive 20-30 minutes before official park opening, rent a locker if you need to store some valuables, then get in line for rope drop. As soon as the park opens, make your way to a seating area near to lots of trees - if you are there early you should have no trouble finding somewhere suitable. There is also a nice quiet and shaded area close to the entrance of 'Crush n Gusher'. To be sure of having shade for the whole day I would highly recommend renting a
Beachcomber Shack (a private, shaded patio for up to 6 Guests, with seating, towels, refillable drinks mug, cushions, a locker and a cooler) or
Getaway Glen Umbrellas, for up to 4 Guests, with chairs, towels, a small table and an umbrella for that much-needed shade. These will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, and for advanced reservations and information, call (407) WDW-PLAY or (407) 939-7529. You can also enquire about same day availability by visiting
Singapore Sal's when you arrive at the water park.
Please come back and visit us if you have any further questions. We will be happy to help you plan your magical vacation to Walt Disney World.
