What's the best way to plan for an early December vacation with a family of five? I already have a vacation package through Disney Dolphin Swan Reserve Resort as well as Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party tickets! We have four-day park tickets.

Hello Mya from Iowa, I am Anne from Iowa!

You are already off to a magical start with your resort and ticket package. Early December truly is the most wonderful time of the year at Walt Disney World, with every park and resort dressed in its holiday finest. And you chose very well by adding Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party to your plans. Between the festive shows, the cheerful parade, Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks Show, and so much more, even Scrooge himself would be humming carols by the end of the night.

With four-day tickets, you have the perfect opportunity to visit each of the four parks, and I highly encourage you to do so. Each one has its own special brand of magic. My family begins planning by collecting everyone’s “must-do” list for each park. With over 170 rides, shows, and experiences across Walt Disney World, you will want to narrow down the priorities that matter most to your crew. Arriving before park opening is my number one piece of advice. Head straight to the most popular attraction first as it sets the pace for the day and helps you get the most out of your Lightning Lane Multi Pass (which I  recommend purchasing). Since you are staying at the Walt Disney World Swan Reserve, you will be able to make your selections seven days before your arrival.

Be sure to build in time to rest and recharge. A relaxing table service meal can be just the break you need while still enjoying the magic. For a little extra fun, consider a character meal. Tusker House Restaurant for breakfast is my personal favorite. If you prefer to keep your budget neat and tidy, you may want to look into the Disney Dining Plan, which makes paying for meals much simpler.

Your park strategy will also depend on the ages and interests of your group. Families with little ones might benefit from a midday swim and nap, while those with more stamina may enjoy the “rope drop to fireworks” approach. Either way, a little planning goes a long way in making sure everyone ends the day smiling.

I hope this helps you start planning your magical adventure. Come back anytime with more questions. Here at planDisney we love to share our tips and sprinkle in a little extra pixie dust.

    See ya real soon,
    Anne
