Where is best place to dine for a 4 year olds birthday? (any special features at restaurants?) .. can I get a cake at any of the restaurants?

    Sarah:

You can get the equivalent of a frozen Sarah Lee cake at any Disney restaurant on the spot, but with 48 hours notice, you can do so much better.  But more on that in just a second...

Our family chose to celebrate our son's 5-year-old birthday at Disney last year and somehow by the end of the week our son was asking, "Is my birthday over?"  We ended up celebrating at every meal which I think actually confused him.  So I think you're taking the right approach--whether you realize it or not--to try to find a particular restaurant to celebrate with what children that age see as the celebration feature: a cake.

Looking back, I wished we would have chosen a restaurant and bought a cake, specifically the delicious Mickey head cake that I had tried on a previous occasion. But my frugality got the best of me, and I couldn't see buying a cake for Chef Mickey's where there were multiple desserts on the buffet, not to mention the promise of wearing that birthday button for free stuff!  But after the fourth cupcake with a candle in it (thanks to the birthday button), I knew we needed to do something bigger.  We ordered the Chocolate Extinction, complete with dry ice, at our last meal at T-Rex.

Unfortunately, my pick for a child's birthday, Chef Mickey's (my son STILL talks about the Mickey Waffles), doesn't match well with the cake because all of the Character Meal locations have either a buffet or family-style service which includes a dessert.  BUT if you can get over double desserts, that's what I'd recommend: Chef Mickey's and the Mickey Head cake for around $48 plus tax and gratuity.

To order the cake, call the Cake Hotline at: 407-827-2253.  They need your order at least 48 business hours in advance.  If you want to bounce of any other ideas for your child's birthday, feel free to contact me through my bio!

Wishing y'all a magical vacation and a memorable birthday!

Meet the Panelist: Whitney, Mississippi

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
