Hi Sherri!
Your Walt Disney World vacation is right around the corner, and I'm so happy to see you planning ahead to make sure your mobility needs will be taken care of. Disney goes above and beyond to make their theme parks and resorts accessible for all, and as the wife of a wheelchair user, it means the world to me!
Choosing the best wheelchair rental option at Walt Disney World Resort depends on your needs and how you plan to spend your time at the parks and resorts. Let's discuss the options for both manual and electric wheelchairs.
Manual Wheelchairs: Available for rent at each of the theme parks and Disney Springs. These are great for guests who have someone to assist with pushing or who are comfortable self-propelling. The rental is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Electric Conveyance Vehicles (ECVs): Also available at each theme park and Disney Springs, ECVs are perfect for guests who need mobility assistance without the strain of pushing a wheelchair. Like manual wheelchairs, these are rented on a first-come, first-served basis.
For guests visiting multiple days, Walt Disney World offers a "length-of-stay" rental. You pay once for the duration of your stay, and each day you can pick up a wheelchair at the park entrance. This option, however, is only for manual wheelchairs.
For continuous use throughout your stay, including at your resort hotel, consider renting from an authorized third-party vendor. Disney recommends several vendors that offer both manual wheelchairs and ECVs. These companies can deliver the wheelchair or ECV directly to your hotel, offering the convenience of using the mobility aid throughout the Walt Disney World Resort, not just in the parks. Each option has its benefits, depending on your needs. It's important to consider how you plan to spend your time, both in and out of the parks, to choose the best "carriage" for your magical journey through Walt Disney World!
