What is the best itinerary with a focus on rides for a one day park hopper, animal kingdom in the morning and then magic kingdom?

Hi there Sarah, welcome to planDisney!

Now as someone who spends much of the year on expeditions around the world, having a solid itinerary is something I always recommend before setting out on any journey so I'm glad to be able to strategize the best possible day for you as you hop between theme parks to the make the most of your time here:

    • It's always important to start by checking out the Hours and Events Calendar, which typically - but not always - shows Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park opening an hour earlier.
    • As you hop over to Magic Kingdom Park, you'll want to make sure that you're already in prior to 1:00 P.M. in order to join the Virtual Queue for TRON Lightcycle/Run - spots tend to go quickly so having your My Disney Experience App ready to go right down to the second helps a lot! It's easy to prioritize rides if you're willing to skip out on the Entertainment offerings in order to take advantage of lower wait times while they happen. For example, we enjoy the Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade from Frontierland to ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and moving on to the Haunted Mansion while pathways are still blocked off as crowd watch the parade going past.
    • Currently the parade occurs twice each day, which is when we also aim to do as many rides as possible in Adventureland or Tomorrowland! I usually recommend the Fantasyland rides like Peter Pan's Flight for later in the evening as they consistently have longer waits throughout the day, and hopping on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train during Happily Ever After fireworks or as the final ride of the day.
Purchasing Disney Genie+ Service or Individual Lightning Lane entries for select attractions can definitely help save time, especially if you've only got one day to do it all - come back again soon for any other ride planning tips and tricks!

Wishing you all the best on your quest to ride all day!
