Best food options for someone who is vegan or has dairy/allergies?

    Welcome back to planDisney, Hunter!

Doing Walt Disney World Resort dairy-free is my new way of life. While I don’t have any dairy allergies, I have a major lactose intolerance that has opened my eyes to a whole new world of fantastic eats at The Most Magical Place on Earth. I am more than happy to share some of my favorite ways to navigate accommodating this lifestyle.

First things first, when you’re looking at menus in the My Disney Experience App (or on the Walt Disney World website), always scroll down to the Allergy-Friendly section. This is my go-to way to see which items don’t have milk products in them. Also, as you look through a restaurant’s entire menu, you’ll find that many vegan options are marked as “plant-based.” These are practically perfect options for those wanting to avoid meat and other animal products.

Right now, some of my top eats around the parks can be found both inside and outside of the theme parks. At Magic Kingdom Park, I love that the iconic Pineapple DOLE Whip treat is dairy-free. This cold dessert is perfect on any day. Disney’s Hollywood Studios is the home of the ah-mazing Plant-based Totchos at Woody’s Lunch Box.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park is full of global flavors that have a focus on spices and herbs, so there are many plant-based options there. I personally love Mr. Kamal’s Fries (without the tzatziki) and Satu’li Canteen’s make-your-own bowls. EPCOT is a foodie’s playground, so there are tons of options for everyone. Connections Eatery is fantastic and the festival booths have tasty choices, too. For example, I’ve tallied just about 20 or so options for milk-free items at this year’s EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival.

At Disney Springs, one of my favorite spots for dairy-free eats is the newly opened eet by Maneet Chauhan. I also like that there are so many desserts that are vegan at Disney Springs, like the vegan red velvet cupcake at Sprinkles and the oat-milk-based cold brews at Gideon’s Bakehouse.

AN EXTRA GEM: I always recommend talking to a friendly Cast Member about your dietary restrictions as well. I have found some of the yummiest secret menu items because I’ve told someone that I can’t tolerate dairy well. (I had the best special salad ever at the Yak & Yeti Local Foods Cafe at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.)
