what is best food choice to eat for dinner the night bf 1/2 marathon in Jan & also after the run? i was thinking an early pasta dinner at DD but read not to fill up too much the night bf the run-just a light dinner. should i do pasta 4 lunch instead?

    Hi Melissa!

Great question!  Your diet really does play an important part in your race experience.  I do think that everyone is a little different though.  I know that when I go on my morning runs, I HAVE to eat a little bit before I start.  My running partner, though, does not eat anything.  She does better on an empty stomach.

I usually try to eat really bland foods the entire day before race day.  I avoid my normal salads or anything else that has a lot of fiber.  Pasta is great, just avoid thick or spicy sauces.  Your best bet is to do a couple of "food rehearsals" on days before you have long runs.  Try eating what you plan to eat before the race on the days before your those runs and see how you feel.

My race morning ritual is a plain bagel with peanut butter spread.  I like to eat it at least an hour before the race begins though.

I hope this helps!  Please let me know if you have any other questions and good luck with your training!
