which is the best dining plan? we are a family of 4 (7 & 4 yrs olds)...should we get deluxe or the reg with 1 qs and 1 ts 1 snack? we are driving in an rv and dont mind eat breakfast or bbq one day?

    Jonathan:

    Hello to fellow RVer!

I'm assuming you're simply driving to Disney in your RV and then staying at a resort, not staying at Fort Wilderness in your RV to camp.  Otherwise, if you're camping, I don't recommend getting the dining plan because even if you don't like to cook while on vacation, having the ability to barbecue one or two nights and eating breakfast in the RV provides enough relief to your budget not to get the dining plan and simply go out-of-pocket.

However, if you are staying at a resort, I definitely recommend the Basic Dining Plan with one table service, one counter service and one snack per person per day.  Here's why:
    • You have two children.  I don't always recommend the dining plan for all children, especially those who are juniors but have to pay the adult plan cost (10 to 12-year-olds). They simply don't eat an adult portion to justify the adult price. However, the cost of the plan per day for a child under 9 is half of the cost of one Character Meal for them: That's like getting the counter service meal and snack FREE. So if you were planning on taking the kids to a Character Meal, get the plan.
    • The Deluxe Plan provides 3 table service meals--way too much food not to mention too much time out of the parks for your children. Stick with the Basic Plan.
    • If you like to know your expenses upfront, the plan keeps you on budget. Plus, there's no worrying over what little johnny and suzy order from the menu. Price is practically out of the equation.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
