What is the best way to get from AOA to Fort Wilderness for Mickey's Backyard BBQ? How long will it take?

Hi Amy! Going from resort to resort is the toughest journey on property. There are no direct buses between the resorts so you will have to make a transfer at a park or Downtown Disney.

If you go by car or taxi it is about a 13 minute trip. This will drop you off at the front of Fort Wilderness where you will then transfer to an internal bus to get to the Pioneer Hall area where Mickey's Backyard Barbecue is located.

If you are going by bus you can hop on the first park bus that arrives. When you get to the park you will simply head to the area for Fort Wilderness and wait for that bus. Epcot or Hollywood Studios are the closest parks. Again when you reach the Fort you will transfer to the internal buses.  If you choose to go to the Magic Kingdom you will then head to the front of the park where you will see the boat dock. Look for Fort Wilderness signage which is directly in front. Get on the boat and head to the Fort. This is a nice boat ride and change if you have been using the buses every day. It likely is not the shortest route. When you get to the Fort you will not have to worry about internal buses as the Pioneer Hall area is right there. There will be signs directing you to the Mickey's Backyard fun.

Many times after the later Hoop Dee Doo Revue shows they will have direct resort buses waiting. Check with a cast member as this would be the easiest way to get back to your Art of Animation resort that night.

If you are not driving I would certainly give yourself a good hour to hour and a half. You just can't count on buses being there when you need them. With my family we are always watching the bus we need driving away as we head up to the stop. Then it is a wait of another 15-20 minutes!  Good luck but in any case you will enjoy and have fun at this event.
