What is the best way to get from Animal Kingdom to Mickeys Backyard BBQ? What time should we leave Animal Kingdom to make it on time?

    Joanne:

You'll find Mickey's Backyard BBQ located near the marina-side of Fort Wilderness resort. The easiest way to get from Animal Kingdom to the BBQ is to hop on the Fort Wilderness bus out the front exit of Animal Kingdom. The bus ride takes about 20 to 25 minutes.

Keep in mind, though, that once you arrive at Fort Wilderness, you'll be let off at the front of the resort at The Outpost. The BBQ is on the opposite side of the resort, about a mile away. Although you could walk to help shed some of the pounds you'll put on from the all-you-can-eat-Mickey-bars at the dinner, I recommend transferring there at the Outpost's bus stop to a bus headed to the "Settlement" and marina. Although the Orange Line is most direct bus, any bus headed to the Settlement will get you there in about 8 minutes depending on stops. Once at the Settlement Bus Stop, you'll see directions to the Pavilion behind Pioneer Hall where you'll eat dinner and enjoy the show.

The BBQ begins at 6:30 p.m. during Daylight Savings Time and 5:30 p.m. once we move to Standard Time in the fall. I'd give yourself a good hour to make the trip so you can account for bus waits, but because seating is general admission, you'll want to arrive at least 45 minutes before the show.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
