Hi Bernie, I am trying to plan our First ever Disney Vacation for july 12th -July 17th 2010. I have 11 people traveling in our group. What do you recommend as the best place for us to stay it will be three families?

    Hi Farrah,

Thanks for sending in a question! If there are a lot of young children in the three families then I suggest staying at a Magic Kingdom (MK) Resort.  With young children, you will probably be spending a lot of time in that park and staying at a MK Resort allows you to return easily to your hotel room for a break, nap, etc. Of all of the MK Resorts, my personal favorite is the Wilderness Lodge; just note that it is not on the monorail line, though you can get to and from the MK easily via a boat. If you need more space than a standard hotel room, the Villas at Wilderness Lodge are fabulous. It's a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) property, but you don't have to be a DVC member to stay there.

If the three families consists mostly of older children or adults then I recommend staying at the Yacht or Beach Club Resorts. They are located on Crescent Lake between Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios. You can walk to the International Gateway entrance of Epcot in about 5 minutes and you can take a boat to Epcot or the Studios. I recommend these because you are going during the summer and older children will appreciate Stormalong Bay, the pool shared by both resorts. In my opinion, it is the best pool on property. It's a sand-bottom pool with a huge water slide and is about the size of a mini-water park. It is fabulous! Older guests may also enjoy just being on Crescent Lake; you have easy access to Disney's Boardwalk, including the night clubs and restaurants there.

Finally, I have to mention the Animal Kingdom Lodge.  It's is my youngest son's favorite resort. The theming is fantastic. There's nothing like waking up and seeing animals outside your window. The restaurants there are also outstanding, though you don't have to stay there to enjoy them.

Enjoy planning your vacation and write back if you have any more questions! Don't forget to make advanced dining reservations!
