Ahoy there Patrick et bienvenue à bord!
Here at planDisney, it's always great to see fellow Canadians embarking on their journeys at sea and I'm happy to lend some of my nautical knowledge from my years of living and working on the oceans to you ahead of your voyage. One of the great things about sailing the Atlantic is the moment when
Bermuda suddenly comes into view after a few days at sea like a little lively rock popping right out of the ocean.
King's Wharf is a very key Port of Call and not only gives cruise ships the opportunity to replenish stocks and refuel while they may stay docked for longer than most other
Ports on your itinerary, but a chance for guests and crew alike to be able to enjoy a rare moment of being out and about on land in the evening. You may even stay out overnight if you choose; just be sure to be extremely mindful of the ship's time!
- In most instances, the ships will remain docked at the Royal Naval Dockyard which will be the jumping off point for everyone disembarking the ship to explore, meet their Port Adventures or head further afield to the city of Hamilton. I've only ever experienced one situation where the ship has had to leave for a brief period of time before returning again, but this was very late in the evening and you should be informed in advance if any changes to your guest All Aboard time are made.
- Due to local regulations and taxes, Disney Cruise Line tends to ensure that onboard shopping and merchandise locations remain closed whenever a ship is in port. The same tends to be true for cruises with overnight stays, though checking with recent Disney Cruise Line Navigator App itinerary information I found that the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique may remain open while the other shops or locations are closed. Since offerings and opening hours are always subject to change without prior notice, your best bet is to inquire with the Crew Members in the shopping and merchandise teams directly to see when they will be closing or reopening as you sail into Bermuda. (I spoke with a friendly Crew Member working in the shops who let me know that in most cases, they tend to schedule a reopening time over 2 hours after the All Aboard time for guests.)
If there's anything that I recommend doing, it's diving (literally) into the
legends of the Bermuda Triangle where can get a chance to
explore shipwrecks and even
try scuba diving for the first time in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean! You might find that some of the restaurants in port can be a little pricier than what you might have at home, so I like to return to the ship and enjoy my meals on board before heading out again to continue exploring on land. Whatever you choose to do Patrick, I hope to
see you back here at planDisney for any more questions you might have ahead of your voyage!
All the best on your overnight adventuring in Bermuda!
Prince
