We’re at the very beginning of planning for a Disney cruise. Are there any cruises leaving from Florida that don’t require guests to have a passport?

    Ahoy there, Meredith!

Thanks for visiting planDisney! I'm so glad you're already considering important details like travel documents as you select a cruise. Let's dive right in, shall we?

Round-trip cruises sailing from/to Port Canaveral, Fort Lauderdale, Galveston, San Diego and San Juan to visit the Bahamas, Caribbean, Pacific Coast, Bermuda or Canada, do currently give US Citizens the option to travel with an original state-issued birth certificate and a physical government-issued photo ID (guests 15 years of age and younger don't need the photo ID) in place of a passport. It's important to note that copies of birth certificates are not accepted at this time.

That being said, there are a lot of benefits to traveling with a passport and if you have time to apply for one before a cruise I would highly recommend that option. It looks like it's taking around six weeks for a normal passport application right now, and if you've had a passport before you may be able to renew it online. It's worth checking, just for the extra peace of mind while you travel. And who knows, maybe after your cruise you'll want to sail to some new destinations!

If this will be your first cruise then you have a lot of very fun choices to make! There are some helpful cruise planning tools online to get you started. Did you know there are sometimes special rates for Florida residents? It's definitely worth keeping an eye on the special offers page! You can book your cruise online or you're also welcome to call Disney Cruise Line to book with a Cast Member over the phone. They'll happily answer any questions about travel documentation you might have about a particular itinerary.

Have so much fun planning your cruise, Meredith! Please let us know if you have other questions, we'd be happy to help.

    Keep moving forward!
