Welcome back to planDisney, Lucia!
A very happy (almost) birthday to your son, and a warm welcome to the Disney family to your son and husband! There's plenty of magic to go around! I'm sure you're very eager to take your loved ones for their first time. Don't forget to stop by any gift shop or Guest Relations to get their complimentary "First Visit" buttons.
I genuinely thought that my son's favorite park (he is three) would be Magic Kingdom! But the more we go he is adamant that Hollywood Studios is the best theme park! With Star Tours, Rise of the Resistance, and Millenium Falcon available as Star Wars themed rides -- as well as Toy Story Mania, Alien Swirling Saucer, and Slinky Dog Dash available as the Toy Story themed rides... I can see how my Star Wars and Toy-Story-loving son thinks Hollywood Studios is the best! Not to mention our family's new favorite restaurant,
Round Up Rodeo BBQ, is in Toy Story Land!
While I completely understand the nostalgia in the classic "first look at the castle" and the feeling of walking down Main Street at Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios can also offer some incredible first-time memories! If I were choosing for my family's first time again (knowing my son's preferences now) I would personally choose to do Hollywood Studios for our one park! You ultimately know your family best, and I don't think you can make a wrong decision! Magic is literally around every corner, and your family is sure to love either location!
If you choose to change your visit, be sure to update your Park Reservation to Hollywood Studios. And if for some reason you cannot, Magic Kingdom will be an INCREDIBLE first theme park for your family. You will not regret a single moment! (You can always visit us again for more recommendations for Magic Kingdom!)
...Now a few more recommendations for Hollywood Studios:
-ALL of the rides are incredible! However, I would prioritize which ones your family is most interested in riding and attack them in order of importance. (Get to the park early to maximize your ride-time!)
-The Blue Milk in Batuu is good... but we like the Green Milk better!
-Take some time to wander around Toy Story Land and Batuu because there are often roaming characters!
-Consider crafting a lightsaber with your son at
Savi's Workshop! If that's a little too advanced for your 5-year-old, there is a custom plastic lightsaber experience in the gift shop following the Star Tours ride.
-Get a reservation for Roundup Rodeo BBQ... it is the best family-style restaurant experience in Disney World in my opinion! Great food, fabulous ambiance, and a whole lot of fun!
