Hi Kristy! Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! The Harmony Barbershop is one of my favorite places to visit.
I absolutely love your question! I think it is such an amazing gesture that your daughter wants to cut and donate her hair! As an oncology nurse by day this makes my heart sing! Seeing firsthand the look of excitement, tears, and appreciation when a patient receives a wig is a moment that is never forgotten.
The
Harmony Barbershop doesn’t directly donate your hair themselves, but the great news is that the cast member that is cutting the hair will help to gather the hair, put it into a ponytail, and then place it in a bag for you to take and send off to the organization of your choice! Make sure when you sit down to have her hair cut you tell the cast member that you are going to be donating the hair!
Most organizations that accept donated hair expect the ponytail to be 10-12 inches long. Hair must not be chemically processed, must be tightly bound and secured, and must be dry before placing into a pony tail/braid and cut. If the hair doesn’t meet these requirements it will not be processed once it gets to the organization. Please be sure to check what the requirements are for the organization of your choice before you cut and send the hair to them.
My favorite organization to donate hair to is Wigs For Kids. They provide wigs for children under the age of 18 who experience hair loss as a result of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, Alopeica, and other medical reasons.
Please tell your daughter how happy this selfless act made me! She is helping to put a smile on a the face of a person in need; and this generous donation may just change that person's life! Have a magical vacation!
