Contemporary Resort.
My family members are big fans of resort lounges across Walt Disney World. They are great places to relax for a light meal or snack along with a drink. Our absolute favorite is the
Steakhouse 71 Lounge on the ground floor of the Contemporary Resort. In addition to seating at the bar, the lounge has sofas and comfy chairs where you can get full bar service, including specialty cocktails. The bar menu offers a few selections from the adjacent
Steakhouse 71 restaurant. The last time we were there, we shared an order of crab cakes, the onion rings and a side of loaded mac and cheese for dinner. Delish! Hours can vary, but the lounge usually is open from lunchtime until about 11 pm.
Our other go-to spot at the Contemporary is the
Outer Rim Lounge, tucked away near Chef Mickey's with a view across Bay Lake to Wilderness Lodge. This lounge has a full bar and a long list of specialty cocktails. It does not serve food, though you sometimes can get nuts or pub mix to quell the munchies. We like Outer Rim as a place to gather with friends or family before or after dinner. The bar typically is open from early afternoon until about midnight.
Seating at both of these lounges is first-come, first-serve.
There's also a beautiful bar in the
California Grill atop the Contemporary, which offers an amazing view of Magic Kingdom. Access to that lounge, however, is frequently limited unless you have a dining reservation at California Grill. It never hurts to ask, though. You can check with the cast member at the California Grill podium on the second floor to see if there's available space. That bar is open only during California Grill dining hours, from about 5 to 10 pm.
