My band is not linking right out of the package. I have pressed the button on the back and it still says try again

    Hi there, Amy!

Welcome to planDisney! I'm sorry that you are having a less-than-magical experience with technology, I know that can be very frustrating. I'll do my best to help you get paired up and ready for a day at the parks!

Before you try to pair your MagicBand+ to the Disneyland Mobile App on your phone you should make sure that you have the latest version of the app downloaded. If you're a coast-to-coast Disney visitor and you have the My Disney Experience app from Walt Disney World Resort as well then you'll also need to make sure that app is completely closed before you try to pair your band to the Disneyland Mobile App. Too much pixie dust at once can get the bands confused!

With the latest version of the app ready you can follow these instructions to set up your Magicband+ on your device:

    • Open the Disneyland Mobile App, tap the "☰" icon to open the menu, and select "MagicBand+"
    • Tap the "+" icon at the top right of the screen
    • Turn on your MagicBand+ by pressing the button on the back once, then tap the button on the app that says "Open Scanner to Link"
When you're scanning your band I recommend holding it so that it's actually touching your phone and slowly moving the band around the back of your phone (starting at the top) until the scanner picks it up. Hopefully, your phone will pair with your band and you'll be ready to link it to a ticket!

If you're still having trouble linking your band the first thing I would try is turning it on and off (the classic tech response, I know). To power off your band you'll need to press and hold the button on the back of the band for about 6 seconds, until the band buzzes twice. If the power-off is successful, the LED light on the front will turn red. Then you can press and hold the button for one second to power it back on. When the band turns on you will see a solid green light on the front. Then you can try to pair it again following the same steps in the list above.

If the band still won't pair then the next thing I would try is a factory reset. That takes a single press of the button on the back, quickly followed by a second press that you hold for 15 seconds. If you've done it correctly then your band will buzz three times and light up with rainbow colors. The lights will turn off and then flash green once the factory reset is complete. Then you can try pairing again.

Sometimes I've needed to ask for help with my bands when these steps don't work...but Cast Members are always happy to help! You can use the Disneyland Mobile App to chat with a Cast Member by scrolling down the main menu to open a chat. Or you can always ask a Cast Member when you get to the parks. They've always had the right pixie dust to get me fixed up!

Amy, I love how many different things there are to do with MagicBand+ in the parks. Some features are brand new for the Disney100 Celebration! Whether it's glowing right along with the gorgeous nighttime spectaculars or a surprising interaction on a ride, it's so much fun to feel like you're really part of the magic. I hope you'll get your band linked up so you can have a fantastic visit!

    Keep moving forward!
