what is a backstage pass and how do you get one?

    Hi Kim!

The backstage area is areas of the Walt Disney World Resort that are generally "off limits" to guests.  However, Disney does offer guided tours of the backstage area.

There are several backstage tours, from an approximately 45 minute glimpse at Epcot's vast greenhouses to a seven-hour walkaround at three separate parks.  There's even a tour for guests who want to learn more about the steam engines at the Magic Kingdom.  Most are offered only on certain days of the week.  None of the tours allow cameras backstage and only a few allow children under 16.

The Keys to the Kingdom tour in the Magic Kingdom is one I highly recommend for guests who are interested.  It's relatively inexpensive (compared to some of the other tours) and is about 4 hours long, leaving you some time left in the day for other activities.  It includes a trip below the Magic Kingdom to the service tunnels known as the Utilidors.  If you like the Keys to the Kingdom tour then you may also enjoy Backstage Magic.  That is an awesome tour for those who want to peek behind the curtains and see how things work in three parks, but it is about 7 hours and much more expensive.

    Have a magical vacation!
