Hi Shannon!
I had the opportunity to take the
Backstage Magic tour a few months ago and it was nothing short of amazing! Any time I can peak into how the backstage magic plays a part of the on-stage magic is a thrill for this Disney enthusiast.
I'm not a design major in the least, but I have a small embroidery and sewing business that I run out of my home, so I was super excited to visit Creative Costuming at Walt Disney World. If I had to guess, this part of the tour lasted about 30 minutes. It was long enough to see quite a bit of the different departments that make up Creative Costuming. I don't want to give too much away (some spoilers ahead), but we were able to see Cast Members up close working on repairing costumes, adding embellishments to new costumes, check out the amazing equipment and machinery used to design costumes and cut patterns and even get up close to touch and hold a few costumes. There's a really fun photo opportunity as well that I immediately made my Facebook profile picture! It's not just a walk-through, but an in-depth look at what goes into creating these intricate costumes for Cast Member performers.
The visit to Creative Costuming is just a piece of what makes the Backstage Magic tour my favorite of the
tours Walt Disney World offers. I was really impressed with Textile Services and found it to be so interesting. I never thought I would say that about laundry! This tour also visits the "utilidors", the underground tunnels in Magic Kingdom park, which on its own gives you major bragging rights. Even though your daughter might be most interested in seeing Creative Costuming, I guarantee you that you will not be disappointed with this tour as a whole. My entire tour group was ooooh-ing and aaahh-ing at every stop we made.
Have a magical day!
Leslie
