Are backpacks allowed in the parks?

Hi, Daniel!  Thanks for bringing your question to planDisney!

Although I travel much lighter now that my kids are teenagers than I did when they were little, I still have a lot of essential items that I bring with me when visiting the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks.  Luckily, backpacks are permitted in the theme parks, so it's easy for me to bring along everything I need to enjoy my day.  My park bag is always stocked with portable phone chargers, sunscreen, band-aids, a jacket or sweatshirt, rain gear, and a refillable water bottle.  Carrying a backpack in the parks also provides me with a convenient place to store loose articles like my phone, sunglasses, and my Minnie ears or hat when I'm experiencing attractions.

When selecting a backpack to use in the theme parks, please refer to the Walt Disney World Resort Property Rules.  According to the rules, backpacks larger than 24" long x 15" wide x 18" high (61 cm x 38 cm x 46 cm) are not permitted in the parks.  Also, please be aware that all bags may be subject to screening at the park entrance's security checkpoint.

On most Walt Disney World theme park attractions, you will be able to bring your backpack with you and place it at your feet for the duration of the ride.  However, TRON Lightcycle / Run Presented by Enterprise is an exception to this rule.  Riders cannot bring loose articles larger than a wallet or cell phone onto TRON Lightcycle / Run.  Lockers are conveniently located in this attraction's queue for Guests to store their backpacks and other personal belongings while riding.

I like to keep my backpack with me throughout the day to have easy access to my belongings when I need them.  However, if you would prefer to not carry your backpack through the park, lockers are available to rent and can be found near the entrances of each theme park.

Daniel, I hope that this information is helpful as you get ready to visit the Walt Disney World theme parks.  If you have any other questions, please stop by planDisney again at any time.  My fellow panelists and I are all ears!  See ya real soon!
