Ahoy there, Kari!
Welcome back to planDisney!
Alaska is such a breathtaking destination—every time I think about those glaciers, I feel like I’m stepping right into Frozen. I love that you not only enjoyed the themed festivities but that Oaken’s Warm Apple Pudding Cake left such a magical impression you’re ready to bring a taste of Arendelle right into your own kitchen!
I’ve been on quite the quest myself trying to track down this recipe for you, and while I didn’t find it tucked away in Elsa’s ice palace, I do have a lead. I spoke with an incredible Cast Member at Disney Cruise Line who recommended
emailing the Guest Services Team. They can usually contact the ship directly to see if they can share the recipe. I even sent them an email myself so we can double our chances of success—just call me your honorary Sven in this adventure! Be prepared, though—it can take up to 25 days for a reply, and sometimes Disney has to keep a bit of its culinary magic secret, so there’s a chance they may not be able to share it.
If that happens, don’t worry—you can still channel your inner Oaken at home! Fun fact: Oaken’s Warm Apple Pudding Cake is quite similar to a traditional Norwegian dessert called “Eplekake.” I had no idea until I went digging, but you can find several recipes online that come pretty close to the version served onboard. Just don’t forget to finish it off with a drizzle of warm butterscotch cinnamon sauce and a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream for that true “ship-worthy” touch. It may not be the same without the
Frozen Deck Party festivities, but with a little imagination (and maybe some Frozen music playing), you’ll practically hear Olaf singing about “warm hugs.”
I hope this helps bring a little taste of Disney Cruise Line magic to your kitchen. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that we hear back with that exact recipe—because as Olaf would say, “some things are worth melting for,” and this cake definitely qualifies!
Sea ya real soon with a July full of fireworks at sea and memories that sparkle like pixie dust,
