Hey Howdy Hey Dolores and welcome to planDisney!
Thank you so much for reaching out to me directly with your question about
Rider Switch. This was such a great addition to options available for families visiting Walt Disney World Resort with riders that may not be tall enough or thrill seeking-enough for some attractions. With our family of 5, we have used this on more than one occasion and really enjoy it! Let's review the process for you so you can be well prepared for all attractions.
Rider Switch is available at most attractions in all four theme parks in Walt Disney World. This feature allows some of the party members to experience the attraction while an adult stays with the non-riders. After the first party is done with their experience, they can meet up with the non-rider party and make the switch so the adult staying with the non-rider will have a chance to experience the attraction. Most often they won't let the adult staying with the non-rider first, ride alone and will often let one member of the riding party experience the attraction again.
To redeem this entitlement, simply to go the greeting Cast Member at the front of the attraction line and ask about Rider Switch. They will then set you up on the process. Sometimes they may make the non-riding party wait in a certain area but most recently in our experiences in the park, we were given access to Lightning Lane Entry so 3 members experienced an attraction and then one of my daughters' got to ride again with me. It was super easy and a great way to experience the attraction without having to wait in line twice!
Disney does have some information for you to help plan your ride experiences a little better at the bottom of the
Rider Switch page. The great part about attractions at Disney is most of the attractions can be experienced by the family together. Of course, there are some with height requirements and most of them should be listed here so you can use Rider Switch on them.
I hope you are having a super fun time planning your upcoming trip. If you do have any other questions we may be able to help with, please
feel free to reach out and let us know, we always love a good reason to talk all things Disney!
Happy Planning,
Nick
